A RECENT SURVEY of Baby Boomers reveled that the number one pursuit they plan to undertake in retirement is writing a book. The Number 1 topic? Themselves. A Boomer myself, I’m comfortable with others my age, though I frequently speak to high school students, as well. Other populations I have taught include:
- Large assisted-living facilities
- Any other large treatment community
- Veterans
- Teachers
- Blogging conferences
- Parents of children with illness
- Mommy bloggers
- Children of parents with illness
- Spouses caring for the ill
- Anyone in recovery from any substance abuse
My primary home is The Arts Center of the Capital Region, where my weekly memoir classes concentrate on short-form memoir. I also teach a monthly Master Class for those who are writing long-form memoir. The Arts Center has a 99-seat black box in which I regularly conduct half-day, everything-you’ve-ever-wanted-to-know-about-memoir classes, called Memoirama.
This summer, I will be at the Chautauqua Institution in August (below).
And you can always find memoir writing instruction on the memoir writing blog on this site. Please be in touch. I’ll get that story out of you. I promise.
