AH, FISHING TALES. Just about everyone has them. How not to let yours get away?
Find a whopper of an event in the fishing world and use it as your news peg.
For instance, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, it was on this day in 1996, that a 211 striped marlin was caught at Red Hill, Hawaii, and that got me wondering why that was worth a mention in that distinguished magazine. Well, it turns out this was a whale of a day when Roger L. Paul landed this state record striped marlin on 80-pound test tackle. That got me wondering what else in the fishing news is available online, and sure enough, I discovered myriad sites for world records of fish. How about a 255-pound halibut, or a 435 pound tuna?
These records are all recorded, and while there are myriad fishing record sites online, the mother of them all is the IFGA, or International Game Fishing Association, where there is a hall of fame, events calendar, conservation news, as well as many links to educational opportunities for anyone wanting to know more about fish.
Now you know. Memoir and research. They go together like bait and tackle.
Got a good date in fishing? Send it along, and I’ll add it to my interactive calendar. Let’s inspire other, shall we?

FYI, bluefin tuna, for one, have weighed in @ 1500 lbs. There’s a legal limit about what one can keep. I know a tuna fisherman who caught one weighing 900 lbs. And that’s no fish tale.
