The Memoir Project Tops P&W Best Books for Writers

imagesA HUGE RED LIPSTICK kiss goes out to Poets & Writers magazine’s online site for placing The Memoir Project, my idiosyncratic, irreverent little book on how to write memoir, at the top of their new list of best books for writers. MWAW! I have always loved and read that magazine, and subscribe to their wonderful newsletter. If you don’t know P&W, it’s your very best source for what you need to know to write. Thank you, P&W. I am  humbled and honored, and send you buckets of redhead love for this listing.

Elsewhere on this site you will find my very own list of Best Books on Writing I’ve Ever Read, so this is a topic I’ve through long and hard about. But to find myself on the list of my very favorite magazine for writers made me deliriously happy.

Have you seen my little, irreverent book on how to write memoir? I’d love you to give it a read. I wrote it for you, and for all writers who aspire to writing what they know. It’s full title is The Memoir Project: A Thoroughly Non-Standardized Text for Writing & Life. Why? Because it is all of those things. And more.

I wrote it after writing and publishing three mass-market books, working at The New York Times and being a contributor to National Public Radio’s All Things Considered. I thought carefully about what each of those experiences taught me and I put it all in there. And yet, its short. And paperback. And very much written with you and your writing success in mind.

Do I think it’s the best book on how to write memoir? Of course I do. But I’ll leave that up to you to decide. Hope you’ll have a look.

That’s absolutely AWESOME, Marion! And so well deserved! After years of spinning my wheels in workshops, your book finally gave me the traction I needed. You go, girl!

How wonderful! And well-deserved for your book to be listed among the best recommended for writers in P & W.

Whenever I want a word to be in italics, because of my dramatic style, I think, OK, do it! —yours is a non-standardized way of writing — (Marion said!) — So, claim it! (and then I go back and take out a few, later, because one can overdo one’s style)
