AS A MEMOIR EDITOR and writing coach, I enjoy terrific moments witnessing writers getting what they want from their work. The best of my experience with clients may be when just a wisp of an idea flows into a first draft, a second and third draft, edits, rewrites and then – oh happy day – publication. I don’t know if it’s the finest feeling in the world to witness this kind of progression, but it’s right up there. And it just happened. Would you like to know how to get a personal essay published? I suggest you read on.
As ever, I asked permission from the writer to reveal that we work together, as I would if it was your work I was posting. But see if you can’t see my buttons bursting here for the writer Hilarie Pitman Pozeksky, whose deeply provocative piece is featured on Kveller.
Hilarie has recently begun teaching her children about anti-semitism. A tricky essay to craft, I suspect you’ll agree with me that this is a fine piece of writing.
Have you worked with me and then been published? Please let me know and I’ll share it here.
